Law and business are a good mix, says Josh Sparks, whose paleo cafes are thriving. BY JANE SOUTHWARD
When Josh Sparks was 17 and in his final year of high school, he started his first business creating and selling t-shirts at Schoolies on the Gold Coast. At about the same time, he was reading books about businessmen Warren Buffett and Jean Paul Getty.
Sparks was thrilled when he got into law at Queensland University of Technology and combined study with working part-time in the t-shirt business promoting Schoolies, as well as serving in restaurants in Brisbane. the mix of law and business kept him happy.
Things seemed even brighter when he landed a prized graduate position as an articled clerk at Clayton Utz. However, just 12 weeks into the position that many of his university friends had dreamed of, Sparks realised working in the law was not for him.
